The FIRST International Film Festival, with its red carpet and celebrity participants, is known as the beating heart of China’s independent film scene and an incubator of young talent. This year’s festival put the spotlight on female filmmakers and their compelling stories. We were on the ground at the festival in Xining this July, engaging with attendees to hear their take on Chinese feminist films.
