The World of Chinese is seeking a full-time editor to join our award-winning team in Beijing. The ideal candidate will have experience writing and editing English, an understanding of Chinese society and culture, and familiarity with TWOC’s content and audience. 

Responsibilities

• Pitching and writing stories for our website, print magazine, video projects, and other platforms
• Taking part in weekly editorial meetings and generating ideas for content
• Taking responsibility for the editorial quality of our content
• Editing multimedia stories for grammar, consistency, and accuracy
• Editing and creating content across multiple formats (e.g. social media platforms, podcasts, short videos etc.)
• Helping to grow TWOC’s team and content by cultivating new freelancers, sources, beats, and collaborations
• Sticking to a strict publication schedule, while dealing with editorial concerns as they arise

Requirements

• Native speaker of English, or capable of writing and editing in English at a native level
• Familiarity with current affairs and cultural trends in China
• A good eye for editing in terms of style, logic, flow, and journalism conventions
• Ability to edit and write quality long-form stories, as well as shorter news articles and social media posts, under a deadline
• Ability to shepherd new writers and non-native speakers of English through TWOC’s writing conventions 
• Creative thinker capable of working independently as well as collaboratively with others
  
• Chinese speaking and reading ability would be an asset
  
• Experience with social media and video editing would be an asset
